My first finished socks

It only took me 3 months to complete but I finished my first real pair of socks earlier this month. I say first real pair because I made a couple of toddler socks just for practice. Here they are in all their glory.

I used Cascade Fixation on size 3 needles. I must admit that the stretchiness of the yarn threw me and I ended up with socks that are two different circumerences atthe ankle. I was able to make both socks out of one ball of yarn. I have another ball left and I really would like to pawn it off if anyone is interested, drop me an email.

Stress Subsidence Reported Hereabouts

Thus, I give you ... the Heel Flap! Ta-da!
Impressed, aren't you? Well, just you wait, my little duckies, you may even see an honest-to-gourd finished heel emerge this weekend.

No guarantees, mind you.

Just for Fun

Here's a scan of one of my pumpkin socks, worn over my hand so you can see the stitch pattern a little better. They're both done to the heel; hopefully this weekend I'll get the heel flaps started. The yarn is Knit Picks Essential.

Thuja

Hi, finished the pair today. Pic of DD posing.

Look here for additional cute pic!
I used LB woolease and made a few mistakes (pssst no one can tell either LOL!) but I really learned so much...like how to really do a heel flap!! I used magic loop exclusively on the 2nd sock and ML and dpns on the first. ML way easier for me. As these will be washed and worn many times, not bad, a pair of socks for under $2. Yep, only 1 skein used. Many more of this pattern to follow ;)

Hello!

Hi everyone! I just joined you all today and I'm very happy to be here! I really like how you have a whole list of patterns on the side, very helpful to us sock addicted knitters ;) ...I've already copied one and have been eyeing a few others.

I have 2 socks currently in progress, a Thuja pair and ribbed cuff pair. You can check out my latest sock tales, woes, etc. here!
Thanks!

Jaywalker "Progress"

The whole saga is on my blog, but yesterday my Jaywalkers went from this:

To this:

Basically, my gauge was too small, so I need to make the larger size of the socks. I couldn't get them over my heels. Pooh. Oh, well, I definitely have the pattern down. =)

A new skill for me

Alright guys you inspired me to improve my sock knitting skills. I've only knitted one pair of socks before and that was for the Knitting Olympics. So last night after finding this blog I decide to get moving and start another pair.

My new skill is 2 socks on 2 circular needles. I used this tutorial to figure it all out. I didn't want to take the time to split a skein into two balls, so I'm really knitting two different pairs of socks. Sock one is out of On Line 765 and sock two is out of Opal Ladybug. I'm really hooked on the idea of having two socks done at the same time, unfortunately this time it still won't be a finished pair.
Hi fellow sockknitters! I am new to the KAL. I have finished one pair of socks this year (sockapaloooza). The current pair is a basic sock pattern with the Austermann Step yarn in 03 gras. The yarn is so yummy! Will post photo when it is available.

Knitnut

slow progress

I've just turned the heel on sock #1.

I'm hoping to focus exclusively on the socks soon. Have to finish another KAL project and a wee sweater for a baby who will be here very, very soon.

Knit on!

A sock for myself

I have been knitting so many socks for others, I finally decided it was time to start one for myself.
Made with ARTYARNS ULTRAMERINO 4 #111, in a lace rib pattern.
But of course I have to put this lovely sock on hold for a little while so I can knit up branching out for my grandmother's 80th birthday.
Lets hope good things come to those who wait. Posted by Picasa

I know I've been quiet but....

I have finished one pair of socks...but they're secret socks. They are a little pair to swap with Glittrgirl as we discovered we have the same size feet so could knit each other socks with ease. All I can say is that they are a bit jazzy!

I've also almost completed 1 jaywalker - I just need to do the toe. So sock knitting is occuring.

Progress. Of a Sort.

Mindlessness. Simple stockinette. Knit after knit after knit, punctuated only by the occasional dropped or split stitch. That's about all I can handle right now. So, I give you:

My Sock!

Basic as all get out. Sally Melville's Simple Sock pattern, from The Purl Stitch. In Baruffa Lana Folk, wool/nylon, that was in my stash from who knows when. [yes, children, there was sock yarn even in the Dark Ages when I was young like you.]

Goal: Finish My Sock in this lifetime. [Note the singular noun. That's as much as my frazzled brain can handle right now.]

It's been awhile

TA DA!
I thought it would never happen. Last night, in a moment of weakness, I cast on for the second Hawaiian Leis sock. The first one has been buried in my knit bag for almost a year. I don't remember when I started it. I only got the cuff and one pattern repeat done, but it's a start. The lace pattern goes all the way down the cuff and down the instep and top of the foot. It's Trekking XXL (forgot which color). The cuff is knit with size 2 dpns and the rest of the sock is knit with size 1 dpns. Lucky for me I bought an extra set of size 1 and 2 dpns last month. It's amazing!
Other news: I think I have the entire Jaywalker cuff done. I have to measure.

Hello!

This is my first post here, and my first sock... All the knitting I've done, and no socks! I can easily see a new addiction forming! As many of you know, this is Jaywalker, and it's very nice to knit! A lovely pattern... the yarn is Lang (comes with the nifty little spool of thread to reinforce heel & toe). This picture isn't so good, the colour's off... it's much softer... No proper natural light, so this is the best there is right now, believe me! So, hi to everyone and I look forward to the socks!

Pair # 2 on the needles!

Just cast on for these today - Jaywalkers in Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in "Happy Valley". Can't wait to see how they progress!

movin' along

Here's how my Pumpkin Socks are progressing. I may put them aside tomorrow, and get back to work on my Olympics project (a vest), which I've been avoiding because it's time to do the shaping of the front armholes and then the neck. I need quiet, uninterrupted time for that, and hopefully will have some tomorrow morning.

I love this "no rules" KAL. It's great to see the variety of socks being made!

On the needles (barely)

I couldn't decide! So I have two projects as my first KAL project. Both are inspired by Sensational Knitted Socks. The first is a self-striping chevron pattern and the second a sportweight alpaca in double moss stitch. No rules is the best!

My new socks will be....

Lola Lacy Mock Rib Socks, pattern and handpainted yarn from Schaefer Yarns. The yarn is shades of blues and greens - gotta have the blue! - and is worsted weight so they will go quickly.
How I got sucked into buying an expensive kit totally escapes me. I think it must have been from seeing another woman at Knit Nite using some of this yarn, and reading about others using handpainted yarns on Knitty. Like I don't have enough sock yarn hanging out in my craft room already. Oh well, the thinner yarns will be better for later in the spring, right??

Finished Wyvern Socks!

Yay! Finished them yesterday morning and wore them all day. They are really comfy, and I love how they turned out.

Now to decide what pattern to do next. Jaywalkers? Pomatomus? Falling Leaves? Crusoe? Ack! The choices! (And let's not get into the yarn decisions... Which one come out of the stash?)

They're on the Needles!

Just a quick progress report. I'm knitting both socks at the same time. Have about 2 1/2 inches done on one, and a half inch on the other. They're my first solid color socks (Knit Picks Essential in Pumpkin) and my own design. Nothing too fancy--when they're a little further along, I'll post a scan.

They are also the first socks I'm making for me, instead of for someone else. Can't wait to wear them!

One Down

Okay, I've got the first of my River Rapids socks done. I've got another project that takes priority before I cast on for the second, but it shouldn't take me more than a week. No Second Sock Syndrome allowed here ... these are going to be a gift!

I've grown accustomed to seeing bright, wild colors in hand-knitted socks, so these seem a bit tame. Rather elegant though -- the solid fawn color really shows the pattern well, and they'll go with everything!

Just saying hi

Just popping by to introduce myself and say hello. My name is Sarah and I'm a sockaholic...lol. Since I knit my first pair back in September there's not been a time when I haven't had a pair on the needles. Right now it's a really boring stockingette pair of dress socks for my husband but a new lacy pair should be cast on very soon. I'm enjoying seeing everyone's progress, sock on!

One sock

Here is the sock. The only sock so far. He's lonely, he needs a friend. But I've got so many other projects going...

It's done in a Lana Grossa sock yarn that Urban Pagan sent me when she was my SP. The pattern is Elann.com's free toe up chevron sock pattern.

Please ignore the brown tights under the socks - it's still cold here :)

Jaywalking beachside

Here's my first on-the-way Jaywalker sock. The yarn is On Line Supersocke 100. The color is 734. It reminds me of the Pacific Ocean and Long Beach ...which is on the Pacific coast.
The blues are the sky and the sea, the khaki color is the sand, the olive-brown color is wet driftwood and the black and white part is seagull crap. See? Perfect!
I really love knitting these, the pattern is so simple. I may make another pair of these when I'm done!

Pffft! And who said self-patterning yarn wouldn't work for this pattern!?

Pomatomus...slowly in progress

Wow, everyone is so far along! Here is my single sad repeat on my Pomatomus socks. :P

River Rapids

Thanks for letting me join! Here's my progress so far on Sock Bug's River Rapids pattern:

My Wyvern Socks

Can I just say that I love this pattern? This is the first pair of socks I have done with a pattern, and I don't think I'm ever going to go back. No more boring stockinette for me! And I really like the way that Marnie did the soles and heel in a 2x2 rib for a closer fit - it's very comfy!

I turned the heels yesterday, so I'm probably about halfway through the pattern. Here is where I am so far with them (pardon the blindingly white ankles - I don't tan. Plus, it's March.)

That's Koigu KPPPM in P314. First time using Koigu - this stuff could get addictive!
So, come on folks - let's see them!

What are you gonna do about it?

Yes, I stole away the progress bars! Haha! I just wanted to let you see what the blog would look like once we all had some socks going. Once you start a sock, the bars will come back. Until then it's a little asinine to have blank bars feeling empty. What a guilt trip.
